Microsoft license products, as PSW or FTSL, activated via MAK (Multiple Activation Key) are not eligible for Microsoft Support.
With the purchase of Extended Security Updates (ESU), you will receive Critical security updates for up to three years past the end of the support date. This ESU can be applied to either WS 2012 or WS 2012 R2. You will also be able to use your existing support contract to receive technical support for covered servers.
To qualify for ESU on-premises or in hosted environments, your server or operating system must meet one of the following prerequisites:
1- Be covered by ACTIVE Software Assurance (SA), acquired through ANY program. (ESU Windows Server also require ACTIVE SA on Windows CAL).
2- Have active subscription licenses acquired through any program, including Cloud Solution Provider (CSP).
3- Have been acquired as 'License-Included’ services through a Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA) partner.
ESU prerequisite rules:
For years 2 and 3 of each ESU, customers must have purchased the prior year(s).
For example, to use year 3 ESU, customer must also have purchased years 1 and 2.
You must license ESU for Windows Server and SQL Server based on either physical cores (pCores) or virtual cores (vCores).
The licenses must align with how you’ve licensed the underlying Windows Server or SQL Server.
